Job Description

Principal Functions

The Minister of Education/Outreach is responsible to the Pastor for the guidance of the Educational Opportunities of First Baptist Church, to equip persons for leadership in these areas, and to promote the total work of the church.

The Minister of Education/Outreach is to provide administrative leadership in the following ways:

  • Provide the necessary guidance for the organizational structure needed for educational ministries.
  • Directly supervise the Youth Director (Coordinator), Children’s Director (Coordinator) and Weekday Education Director (Coordinator).
  • Lead in the recruitment of volunteer workers, guiding the nominating committee in its assigned work.  This requires a constant updating of church members’ skills and interests.
  • Work with the Pastor, other Staff, and the Church Council in the total program design of the work of the church.
  • To promote the total church program through the educational organizations.
  • To request and manage finances necessary for the educational ministry to include the youth and children’s budget.

 

The Minister of Education/Outreach is to provide leadership in the area of growth so that people may be reached and involved in meaningful Bible study.  This requires:

  • Leadership in evangelistic outreach.  He is to provide supervision of prospect records, and to promote the visitation of prospects.
  • Overseeing the Outreach Ministry of the Church by recruiting and training people for soul-winning.
  • Creating new units for the purpose of reaching people.
  • Leadership to provide space necessary for these units.  This may include encouragement to build needed facilities or to seek space by other means.
  • Assisting in the design and accomplishment of long range plans.

 

The Minister of Education/Outreach is to provide leadership for the purpose of improving the learning process in relation to the work of the church.  He is to:

  • Oversee the Youth Ministry through a Youth Director (Coordinator), the Children’s Ministry through a Children’s Director (Coordinator) and the Weekday Education Ministry through a Weekday Education Director (Coordinator).
  • Lead in the selection and research of teaching curriculum.

 

  • Stay informed about educational trends, and know age-group teaching/learning processes.
  • Supervise the training of potential teachers and leaders.
  • Supervise training opportunities for existing workers.
  • Be available for advice concerning the use of teaching aids and materials.

The Minister of Education/Outreach is to work cooperatively with the Pastor in the role of ministering to needs of the congregation and to others.  This requires: to help in the worship services as needed.

  • To help in the hospital ministry on a regular schedule.
  • To be available to the Pastor for other opportunities of ministering to the needs of the people.  This may include counseling or a visit at a time of need.
